PROFILE

Amy accepts instructions in Clinical Negligence, Regulatory and Professional Discipline (including Inquests) and Employment Law.

With over a decade of experience at 9 St Johns Street she is a popular barrister with a developing practice and growing client base. Amy is technically excellent, and this ability coupled with her meticulous preparation make her a junior of choice in her practice areas.

Clients comment on her approachable, friendly and sensitive manner in handing matters. In addition to this Amy is a barrister recognised for going the extra mile to achieve the best possible outcome for those who instruct her.

AREAS OF PRACTICE

SERIOUS INJURY

Amy has a multi-track practice acting for both Claimant and Defendants. Recent examples include:

  • RR v U. Led by Gerard McDermott KC in a claim involving a complex injury to the Claimant’s knee. Matters were complicated by ligament surgery, which caused saphenous nerve injury. Amy represented the Claimant at all interlocutory hearings. She also drafted the Particulars of Claim and Schedule of Loss. The claim settled for £550,000 at JSM.
  • AR v WP. Amy was led by Chris Melton KC in a claim involving a minor who was struck by a vehicle causing brain injury and internal injuries (including gynaecological injuries).
  • GO v TK - Post-Concussion Syndrome claim concerning a woman who was injured in an RTA. She also sustained mild orthopaedic injuries and eye injuries. Despite complex issues surrounding causation, the claim settled in the sum of £100,000.

INQUESTS

Amy has represented many families and Interested Persons at Inquests and PIRs. Her approachable and empathetic manner and meticulous analysis enable her to guide both lay and professional clients through the often-difficult Inquest process. Recent examples include:

  • Death in Prison: 4-week Article 2 Inquest touching upon the death of AJ before HM Senior Coroner Dr James Adeley, acting for the family. Unusually, the jury found gross failures and neglect led to the prisoner’s death, resulting in the Coroner issuing a Regulation 28 Report to prevent future deaths.
  • A 4-day Inquest at Stockport Coroner’s Court, touching upon the death of a 78 year old driver who tragically died during a police chase with a stolen vehicle which drove the wrong way down the motorway.

REGULATORY/EMPLOYMENT

Amy has been appointed to the Panel of specialist advocates who represent the General Medical Council in tribunal hearings dealing with various complex medical and fitness to practice issues.

In relation to employment law, Amy has a particular focus on disability, sex and pregnancy discrimination claims. She has previously been on secondment to two different City law firms dealing with a multi-million pound Equal Pay Claim and high value discrimination/unfair dismissal claims on behalf of football managers.

OTHER

Outside of work, Amy enjoys being in the outdoors. She has completed 3 marathons (London twice and Paris once) with a personal best of 3 hours 44 minutes raising a total of £3,200 for the Spinal Injuries Association. Lately, she is focusing on obtaining a sub 25-minute Park Run (whilst pushing two little ones in a running buggy!)
