Profile
Catherine Cundy worked in higher education before being admitted as a solicitor in 2001. Following qualification she spent five and a half years as a prosecutor with Greater Manchester CPS in its City of Manchester branch. During her time with the CPS, Catherine prosecuted a heavy caseload of serious violent and sexual offences, robberies, burglaries, drug offences, public order offences and cases of domestic violence, and conducted advocacy in the magistrates', youth and Crown courts. She was also responsible for delivering training to colleagues in advocacy and the prosecution of racially and religiously aggravated offences, and was one of the first CPS lawyers to conduct pretrial interviews with witnesses.
Miss Cundy moved to the General Medical Council in 2007 as an in-house advocate, where she was responsible for presenting cases before Fitness to Practise Panels, Interim Orders Panels, Restoration and Investigation Committees. She is experienced in the preparation and presentation of cases involving many thousands of pages of evidence and which rely on expert medical evidence, and has dealt with high profile cases involving fatalities and serious misconduct. Catherine continued to deliver training for the GMC, including training for external counsel and performance assessors.
Miss Cundy transferred to the bar in 2011 to further develop as an advocate. Following her pupillage with Darren Preston she is able to accept new work from the 23rd September. She would be pleased to accept instructions from Solicitors to both prosecute and defend in regulatory and criminal proceedings.
