Called to the Bar in 1988 at 35 years of age, Mr Fitzpatrick began a second career in the law, having been a serving police officer for 14 years in various disciplines and retiring in the rank of sergeant. Since his call he has brought a mature and experienced approach to his work at the Bar obtained through his time spent in the police service.
Mr Fitzpatrick has built up a strong practice specialising in criminal defence work and is consistently instructed in serious and complex cases of all types. He has been involved in several high profi le and important cases, including representing the first defendant under the age of 14 to be prosecuted for rape. He represented a defendant in a landmark case which involved endangering an aircraft in flight by the use of a mobile phone and has acted for Defendants on terrorist charges tried at the Central Criminal Court.
