Police Misconduct

The team provides a specialist and comprehensive service to Police Forces, the Police Federation of England and Wales, and directly to police officers in all areas of misconduct.

We acknowledge as a Chambers that police misconduct is a very specialised area of work. It requires a commitment to a unique statutory framework and follows a process which sets it apart from other regulatory areas. Our team has a wealth of experience in this area spanning over 40 years and with that comes familiarity with misconduct proceedings and the changes that have taken place over the years. The team includes employment law specialists and regulatory specialists enabling our clients to receive a complete and bespoke service where these other areas of law overlap with police misconduct.

The service that we provide includes:

  • Drafting misconduct notices on behalf of Police Forces
  • Providing advice and representation in misconduct hearings for Police Forces and for Police Officers.
  • Drafting formal responses to misconduct notices on behalf of Police Officers of all rank, including Special Constables and former Police Officers.
  • Drafting advice on prospects of success in all matters of police misconduct and related issues, for Police Forces and for Police Officers.
  • Appearing at Police Appeals Tribunals for Police Forces and for Police Officers.
  • Judicial Review advice and representation.
  • Advice and representation for Police Forces or Police Officers in matters involving vetting clearance reviews.
  • Advice and representation for Police Forces and Police Officers at Stage 3 Unsatisfactory Performance Procedure hearings following a review of vetting clearance.
  • Advice, review and preparation of internal policies and procedures relating to police misconduct, for Police Forces.

The team consists of barristers ranging from new joiners to Kings Counsel and their individual pages will provide you with details of their level of experience. Further information can be obtained from our expert clerking team.
