Sarah Kilvington acted as a leading junior, leading Emily Landale for a local authority in a case which involved very serious multiple fractures to an immobile child, in which all other parties were represented by silk and senior juniors. There were 4 key medical experts and 2 of those witnesses attended for cross-examination. It was the contention of the parents that the baby suffered from either osteogenesis imperfecta or another unknown underlying bone fragility condition. This was submitted in the context of this being a single issue case. The learned judge agreed with the local authority’s draft findings that these were inflicted injuries, which occurred in 4 separate timeframes; the learned judge went on to find that the mother was the perpetrator.
