PROFILE
Called to the Bar for 17 years Boyd has made medical litigation the focal point of his practice. He is instructed by a wide range of private and public bodies in complex and challenging matters taking pride in his ability to deal with issues of criminal issues in the civil arena. Boyds practice encompasses:

Boyd has a busy personal injury workload and trial practice which has seen him consistently instructed by specialist firms in both Claimant and Defendant work.
For Claimants much of his work involves serious injury arising from service in the armed forces, workplace accidents, industrial disease and medical malpractice. Boyd succeeded in one of the first cases in the UK to establish an employers liability for release of particulates in the workplace. A large number of Boyds instructions have involved an international dimension and he has a log history of dealing with an inter jurisdictional element.
Boyd has also won repute amongst those who instruct him in motor insurance fraud litigation and is often requested by insurers and professional clients to deal with group litigation and linked claims ( fraud rings), cases involving the deployment of surveillance and tracking information. Boyd has been involved in a number of cases involving applications for committal for contempt.
Boyd does undertake Direct Access Instructions on a limited basis and is a member of the Bar Pro Bono Unit.
REGULATORY AND PROFESSIONAL DISCIPLINE
Boyd is instructed by a wide range of public bodies and private individuals appearing both before professional bodies, tribunals, High Court and Administrative Court with regularity.
He has experience of serious clinical, criminal and health cases including cases with a high profile public element. Most recent instructions in 2013 and 2014 involved serious criminal conviction, misconduct through fraud and misconduct through gross professional incompetence. Boyd accepts instructions to appear before the GDC, NMC, BACP and is regularly instructed to appear for the GMC before the MPTS.
HEALTHCARE AND THE COURT OF PROTECTION
Boyd has an increasing number of instructions in this developing field and has appeared before the Court of Protection, High Court and Administrative Court instructed by local authorities, public, clinical bodies and private individuals in cases involving patients right to treatment, applications for treatment where individuals lack capacity and general welfare applications and hearing where patients lacking competency.
