Profile

Matthew’s practice is sharply concentrated on employment law and personal injury facilitating a depth of expertise in addition to pure experience.

Matthew is a trial lawyer. His instructions are predominately characterised by contentious high value proceedings involving significant disputes of fact or complex opposing expert evidence. Matthew is invariably instructed in Multi-Track and High Court proceedings. He is used to dealing with cases between £500,000 to in excess of £1 million. Matthew is currently retained as Junior Counsel in a number of multi-million pound actions in which he is being led by Leading Counsel. He frequently instructed to negotiate resolutions at joint settlement meetings.

His work in the realm of insurance fraud encompasses advising and acting in high value, serious fraud proceedings particularly organised rings of fraudulent individuals and institutions with an emphasis on acting for Defendants in this type of work.

Matthew appreciates that successful litigation is often born out of a good working relationship with his solicitor clients and lay clients. He appreciates his role as working within a team dynamic and strives to provide a friendly service.

His work ethic is encapsulated by his ‘gold standard’ approach to work ensuring that the quality of his advisory and advocacy work achieves the standard of excellence his clients expect.

Matthew enjoys successful appellate advocacy and has appeared in the Employment Appeal Tribunal, High Court and County Court in numerous appeals. He advises and consults regularly on developing legal points and policy.

Matthew has experience in public inquiry work having worked on the 1st phase of the Shipman Inquiry.

Matthew was a member of the British Debate Squad acting as an overseas debate coach in 2002. Matthew and his debating partner won the European Debating Championships 2001 and were ranked 6th at the World Debating Championships 2002
