PRACTICE PROFILE
Zimran joined 9 St John Street Chambers after successfully completing pupillage under the supervision of Rachael Heppenstall. He is primarily interested in children law and regularly appears before a variety of courts, including the High Court, Court of Protection and the Court of Appeal.

Acting for Local Authorities, parents and children, he has had extensive exposure to care proceedings involving children who have suffered from non-accidental injuries, long term neglect and sexual abuse. He is regularly instructed on behalf of Police Authorities and Local Authorities in disclosure and public interest immunity applications in both the family and criminal jurisdictions. In private children law matters, Zimran is familiar with the full range of Section 8 applications as well as matters falling under the Family Law Act 1996.

Zimran is particularly interested in cases with a human rights element and has been involved in numerous successful appeals under Articles 6 and 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights. He is experienced in dealing with forced-marriage matters having been instructed in several cases since the implementation of the Forced Marriage Act 2007.

In addition to the above, Zimran accepts instructions in all aspects of civil work. He is regularly instructed to represent Claimants in appeals before the Criminal Injuries Compensation Tribunal. In personal injury matters he acts for both Claimants and Defendants. He is keen to provide an efficient service that is tailored to the needs of the individual client.

Prior to coming to the Bar, Zimran worked as part of a legal team at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. He regularly attended meetings of the UN General Assembly and the Security Council.

Zimran retains a strong interest in public international law and the international protection of human rights. He is an active member of the Bar Human Rights Committee (BHRC) and is currently assisting the BHRC with litigation in Nepal and Pakistan.
