Dawn Thomas

PRACTICE

Miss Thomas was called to the Bar as a mature student and has practised almost exclusively in family law since completing pupillage in 2003. Her experience has mainly been gained representing parents and family members in both Public and Private Child Law proceedings. Her practice involves appearing in the Family Proceedings Court, County Court and the High Court. 

In Public Child Law matters Miss Thomas is usually instructed to represent parents or family members in Child Care and Adoption proceedings.
 
In Private Child Law matters Miss Thomas is familiar with the full range of Section 8, Children Act 1989 applications including Specific Issue and Prohibited Steps applications dealing with such matters as Change of Name and Removal from the Jurisdiction.
 
Family Law Act 1996 proceedings also fall within Miss Thomas’ field of practice and she is experienced in dealing with Non-Molestation applications, Committal Proceedings and Occupation Orders.

It is most common for Dawn to undertake Court and advisory work for a brief fee plus additional refresher days. For any advisory work including paperwork and conferences it is most commonly charged at an hourly rate. Dawn also accepts instructions on legal aid rates where those are available, details of which can be found here. Dawn will typically return paperwork within 10 days, however professional commitments, complexity and volume of documentation can affect these approximate timescales.
