Simon Jackson KC concludes prosecution of G20 Pathologist

Simon Jackson KC concluded the prosecution of Dr Patel on behalf of Field Fisher Waterhouse (for GMC Legal) before a MPTS Fitness to Practice Hearing recently held in Manchester. The FTP hearing was in respect of the post-mortem examination Dr Patel carried out on Mr Ian Tomlinson, who died on the 1st April 2009, having been struck by a police office during the G20 riots in London. [The officer was later acquitted of his manslaughter.] On the 23rd August 2012, at the conclusion of the disciplinary hearing, Dr Patel was struck off the Medical Register, the FTP Panel having concluded that Dr Patel's Fitness to Practise was impaired by reason of misconduct and deficient professional performance, this conduct arising out his conduct of the autopsy and the reports which he prepared in respect of his examination of Mr Tomlinson.
